“…the fruit of deception…”

quietplaceFrom The Quiet Place: Daily Devotional Readings:

…from that moment [in the Garden] to this, Satan has used deception to win our affections, influence our choices and destroy our lives and relationships. In one way or another, so many of our problems are the fruit of deception–the result of believing something that simply isn’t true. Satan holds out the glittering promise of a rich, rewarding life if we will just choose his way; yet he knows ‘its end is the way to death’ (Prov. 14:12).

Regardless of the immediate source, anytime we receive input that is not consistent with the Word of God, we can be sure the enemy of our soul is trying to deceive and destroy us. What we read or hear may sound right; it may feel right; it may seem right; but if it is not in accord with the Word of God, it isn’t right.
