just a quick thought

I’m still working through the Bible this year using the 3650 plan. Last night as I read Exodus 13, a few lines grabbed my attention, and I don’t think I’d ever really noticed them before:

When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near. For God said, “Lest the people change their minds when they see war and return to Egypt.” But God led the people around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea. And the people of Israel went up out of the land of Egypt equipped for battle.

God led the Israelites out of Egypt not by the easier, more obvious way, but through the wilderness. That’s because He knew them and their weaknesses and temptations.  Just like He knows ours. That’s why He sometimes takes us through the wilderness instead of where we’d prefer to go.

He knows what’s best for us.

Glad to be in His hands,

  1. Have you read “Leaving Egypt – Finding God in the Wildnerness Places” by Chuck DeGroat? So often we too long for Egypt and our old slavery because that feels more comfortable to us. Thankfully, God is faithful and patient with us in our wilderness wanderings.

so what do you think?
